Donald “Dunno” Porretto, 93 of Charleroi, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017. He was born December 3, 1923 in Charleroi, the son of the late Benardo and Mitalda Vezzetti Porretto. Donald graduated from Charleroi High School in the class of 1942 and at the age of 77 he obtained a Liberal Arts Degree from California University of Pennsylvania He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 22 both of Charleroi. He was a veteran in the US Marine Corps serving in World War II. Donald was the former owner and operator of the Donald Porretto Radio and TV Repair Service.. He retired from General Electric Co, East Liberty Plant. Donald excelled in high school athletics. His favorite past time was playing baseball. After serving his country Donald was selected to join the local minor league baseball team. Donald enjoyed offering coaching advice to any sports minded youth. One other activity, Donald put his heart and soul into was marathon running. Donald’s other interest included painting portraits, big band and swing music as well as ballroom dancing; boasting he could really cut a rug. Above all Donald enjoyed family gatherings, picnics and Florida vacations. He is survived by his son Donald Porretto of Charleroi residing in Illinois; two daughters Cathy Porretto Grant of Charleroi and Cindy Porretto Newman of Speers Hill; three grandchildren Dr. Tricia Grant Sukel, Lacey Newman and Matthew Porretto; three great grandchildren Riley Moore, Bryce Sukel and Xzavier Wergin; two cousins David and Neil Vezzetti. In addition to his parents Donald is preceded in death by his wife Margaret “Peggy” Skokut Porretto; a sister Margarite Clodfellter and a brother Thomas Porretto. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 8p.m. in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery with full military rites.
