Jeannette Martino, 89 of Charleroi, passed away with her grandchildren Joni,Greg along with great granddaughter Daphine Gnora by her side, Tuesday, July 12, 2016. She was born July 17, 1926 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Nicholas P. and Mildred Bailey Garofano. Mrs. Martino graduated from Westinghouse High School, received her BS degree in 1947 from Penn State University, received her M.Ed degree in 1967 from the University of Pittsburgh and in 1987 received her BA degree in Gerontology from California University of PA. She retired from the Charleroi Area School District with 34 ½ years of service as the Health & Physical Education teacher. Mrs. Martino was a volunteer in the Adult Day Care Center at The Center in the Woods located in California, Pa. for 20 years and the Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group Facilitator-California Senior Center for 15 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Charleroi, the United Methodist Women, the Beta-Y-Gradale---Charleroi High School Advisor for Tri-Hi-Y Club, a volunteer at the Center in the Woods, the PSEA and a charter member of the Mon Valley YMCA. Mrs. Martino is survived by her brother Norman and wife Jean Garofano of Syracuse, NY: eight grandchildren Jacqueline (Martino) Galiffa, Joni Martino, Amy Martino, David L. Giannamore, Gregory D. Giannamore, Kimberly LeClair, Lisa M. LeClair and Joseph F. LeClair, Jr.: seven great-grandchildren D.J. Galiffa, Jordan E. Goydich, Daphne G. Gnora, Keaton G. Gnora, Jesse Martino, Bella LeClair and Alexsondra LeClair. In addition to her parents Mrs. Martino is preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Martino, Sr., stepson Joseph L. Martino, two step-daughters Joanne A. (Martino) Giannamore and Rita M. (Martino) Cho; Friends will be received Saturday, July 16th from 1 to 3:45p.m. in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where a funeral service will be held at 4p.m. Officiating clergy will be Pastor Lori Walters. In lieu of flowers contributions are made to the Charleroi First United Methodist Church of a charity of your choice in Memory of Jeannette Martino.
