John J Varkonda

John J. Varkonda, 84, of Locust, VA., formerly of Charleroi, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born March 15, 1933 in Monessen, the son of the late Anna Banoci and George Varkonda, Sr. John was a TSgt in the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1957. He was a member of the Charleroi Presbyterian Church, and the Slavic Citizens Club in North Charleroi. John retired Corning Glass Works Charleroi Plant with 50 years of service. John is survived by his daughter Susan Hatch and husband Brian of Locust Grove, VA., many nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Lily and Bella. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Neda Varkonda, his son John G. Varkonda, a daughter Mary Ann Crockett, a sister Anna Mackey and a brother George Varkonda, Jr. Family and Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m. Funeral services Friday at 11a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Charleroi Cemetery.
