Thomas “Tom” Villella Sr. 89, of Mapleview, passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at his home. Tom was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Donora, the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Raso Villella. On Valentine’s Day in 1953, he married Virginia Sapia, his wife of 48 years, until her passing in 2002. Tom was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a Sgt. of the 27th Supply Squadron and a Pvt. of Co.D of the 110th Infantry Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard. In his early years, he practiced the barbering trade in his father’s business, Joe Villella Barbers. Tom began Villella Remodeling in 1953 and enjoyed working on many homes in the Mon Valley until he retired in 2000, when his son, Tom Jr., took over the business. Tom was known for sharing a cup of coffee with his customers, getting to know their family and being a jokester at times. He even kept a barber kit in his truck complete with a barber cape and would give haircuts to his male customers in their homes. In the 1980s Tom was also owner of two local entertainment spots he converted from the old Moose Club building in Charleroi - the Night Express and Brewsters. In his retirement he continued using his remodeling skills by constantly repairing and refurbishing things in his home. A favorite hobby was shooting pool with friends and family. Tom was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and sisters, Betty Sasko and Jane Barna. Tom is survived by his three children who lovingly cared for him at home in recent months, Jackie Greenawalt (Jeff) of Belle Vernon, Maribeth Malloy (Joe) of Monongahela, and Thomas Jr. of Carroll Township. He had two precious grandchildren, he was “Pap Pap” to Ryan Greenawalt and “Pappy” to Carina Villella. Tom is also survived by a cousin, Rose Raso Venezia of Sewickley and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
