Ann Lucas Obituary

Ann (Dudiak) Lucas of Charleroi, passed away on February 21, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on February 19, 1933 to the late Michael and Theodora Dudiak of Pittsburgh’s Southside, she was the tenth of thirteen children of Ukrainian immigrants. Ann was educated at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic School and South Vocational Technical High School, where she graduated in 1950.

On July 25, 1953, she married Walter “Bucky” Lucas and together they raised four children Sue Ann (Kevin), Paula, Tim (Mirielle) and Mike. Ann and Bucky were later blessed with eight grandchildren (Daniel, Matthew, Katie, Marianne, Michael, Emma, Sarah and Maggie); three step-grandchildren (Sarah, Reemah, and Mariam); and thirteen great grandchildren (Emery,Graham, Griffin, Westin, Sydney, Sadie, Heidi, Nathan, Micah, Jonah, Lucas, Benjamin and Lucy).

Ann’s life reflected the primary values instilled in her by her parents, being faith, hard work and family. She began work at 14 as a pharmacy clerk, later worked as a key punch operator at Bell Telephone, a bookkeeper and a product promoter for ActNow and Avon. Devoted to her family, she relished large family get-togethers, visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and hosting and attending “Dudiak” monthly card clubs. Active well into her golden years, even into her seventies, she regularly played volleyball in a Monday league with friends from the South Side and challenged Bucky in tennis. She and Bucky also traveled often to his many college and high school sporting events.  Ann, however, was never more at peace than when she attended daily Mass and then socialized with friends who did the same.

Family and friends will be received at 11:00 a.m. on February 26, 2024 at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Charleroi, Pa., to be followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at the same venue, interment following funeral service at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.
