Carl "Abbsy" Witmyer

Carl “Abbsy” Witmyer, 87, of Charleroi, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. Born in Charleroi on April 8th, 1939, Abbsy was the son of the late Carl and Sophie Witmyer.

A 1957 graduate of Charleroi High School, Abbsy was a phenomenal athlete, earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball and even earning him the Leslie Morgan Award, along with Myron Pottios as an outstanding senior athlete for Charleroi Area School District. His talent on the baseball field led to him being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds organization directly out of high school. Abbsy served his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his military service, Abbsy graduated from the police academy and dedicated the next 34 years to serving the Charleroi community as a police officer, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant from the Charleroi Regional Police Department.

A member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Charleroi, Abbsy was a member of the Golden Agers and the White Barn Supper Club. He coached the Magicians baseball team for many years and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, football and golf. Abbsy will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering integrity, quick wit, and deep devotion to his family and community. Above all else, Abbsy cherished his wife, Carol, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Surviving to cherish Abbsy’s memory; his wife of 63 years Carol Witmyer. Son Brock (Natalie) Witmyer and his daughter Kelly (Rick) Reginelli. His grandchildren, Cailyn Witmyer and Brady Witmyer. Sisters Evelyn (John) Hosa and Debbie (Dave) Mascara and his brother Jimmy Witmyer. Along with numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Abbsy is preceded in death by his parents.

Friends and family will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30th, 2026, at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi.
