Celestina “Celeste” Corona, 90, of Dunlevy, passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2022. Born on October 1st, 1932, in Casentino, Province of L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region, of Italy. Celeste was the daughter of the late Mark Anthony & Judy (Ricciuti) Lisi.
As a young girl, she lived in occupied-Italy during World War II and had many harrowing experiences about it. Her family hid and fed downed US airmen, as well as Jews, in the mountains, while trying to survive as farmers.
She came to the United States in 1947 at the age of 15, with her parents and siblings, settling in New York City, and learned to be an excellent seamstress, learning to make suits, dresses, and gowns.
Catholic by faith, Celeste was an active member of Mary Mother of the Church (Saint Andrew the Apostle Charleroi Site). She was very active in the Dunlevy Recreation Association and was a seamstress for many years at Zelenski's Bridal and Prom Shoppe in Charleroi. Celeste was a loving and excellent mother and grandmother and will be missed by many. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and serving a large homemade meal that she prepared.
Surviving to cherish Celeste’s memory include her sons, Eddie (wife Lynnette) Corona & Frank (wife Gracie) Corona, her two grandsons Luke & Jacob Corona, numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Anita Delegram, and best friend Nancy Coldren.
In addition to her parents, Celeste is preceded in death by her husband Dominick Corona, brothers, Joseph & Americo Lisi, and her sister Elise DiNatale.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the many wonderful friends and neighbors on Mannina Avenue, as well as OSPTA Home Health Care (especially Sam Zinn), SPHS Aide Rene Bates and Dr. Umberto DeRienzo who were instrumental in allowing her to remain independent, in her home, until a few weeks ago.
Friends and family will be received on Friday October 14th, from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, Pa 15022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday October 15th, 2022, at St. Andrew Apostle Parish, Charleroi Site, 7th Street and Washington Avenue, Charleroi. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hogan-melenyzer.com
