Charles “Jap” Arrigo Obituary

Charles E. “Jap” Arrigo, 73, of West Newton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2020 in the company of family and friends. He was born on September 8, 1946 in North Charleroi, PA, the son of the late Joseph Arrigo and Esther (O’Hara) Arrigo. 

Charles was a 1965 graduate of Charleroi High School where he excelled in baseball, basketball, football, and track. Charles played semi-pro football for the Wheeling Ironmen in the mid 60’s and was an assistant football coach for Belle Vernon High School under Bill Conners from 1985 through 1992. Charles served honorably for 25 years as a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper from November 7, 1969 until his retirement in 1994. Charles owned and operated “Charlie’s Place” in West Newton from 1996 through 2013. Charles was an avid softball player, loved oldies, loved to dance, enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Collinsburg Slovenian and German Clubs, the West Newton Sportsmen’s Club, West Newton VFW, and West Newton Moose.

Charles is survived by son and daughter-in-law Charles and Bianca Arrigo of Wilkes-Barre, Pa; son and daughter-in-law David and Stephanie Arrigo of Baltimore, MD; son Eric D. Arrigo of Rostraver Twp, PA; daughter Kaylyn M. Arrigo-Wallace of Rostraver Twp, PA; grandchildren Anthony Arrigo, Shawn Arrigo, Sofia Wallace, and Kalleigh Arrigo; sister Frances A. Anderson of Charleroi, PA; brother Joseph A. Arrigo, of Baltimore, MD; brother James L. Arrigo, of California, PA; special friend and companion LawrencineCekus; a brother-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; ex-wife Amy (Indof) Arrigo; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother Michael T. Arrigo; a father-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law;and a sister-in-law.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services for the immediate family will be private. A celebration of life for family and friends will be planned after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
