Dr. David E. Brougher, 91, of Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2021 in his home with his family by his side. Born in Swissvale on July 15, 1930, Dave is the son of the late Dr. Lear (stepmother Jeanne) & Margaret (Hall) Brougher.
After High School Doc’ attended Lafayette College (1948-1952) where he received his bachelor’s degree. He then continued his education at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine graduating in 1956. Doc’ completed his internship in 1957 at Tripler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii; and then his residency at Magee Women’s Hospital in Gynecology and Obstetrics, 1958-1961. Dr. Brougher served his country honorably in the United States Army serving from 1961-1965 as Chief ofObstetrics and Gynecology.
From 1965 to 1967 Doc’ was affiliated with Magee Women’s Hospital and Columbia Hospital. He then came to Charleroi in 1967 to practice obstetrics and gynecology in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. He was largely influential in the creation of the OBGYN department at the Monongahela Valley Hospital and was the Chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department from 1979 to 1982. And for many years was the unofficial team physician for the Rostraver Midget League and Belle Vernon Area High School Football programs.
Over Dr. Brougher’s 44 year career; he was most proud that he brought over 7,000 babies into this world.
Following his retirement Doc’ stayed very active in his community; a member of St. Sebastian Church, he also helped the Saint Vincent DePaul Society and did Meals on Wheels. Doc’ was also a member of the Charleroi Rotary Club, Mon Valley Golden Panthers and the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Brougher is survived by his loving wife Carole (Hott) Brougher of Charleroi, before marrying in 2005 their relationship truly began many years before that and grew into a lifetime of stories and memories. He is survived by his children; Deborah Miller, of Colorado, Nancy Brougher, of Illinois, Donald (Amy) Brougher, of Kansas, Betsy (Michael) Monaco, of Pittsburgh and Timothy (Aimee) Brougher, of South Carolina. Grandchildren; Meaghan (Adam) Higgins, Colleen Brougher, Christy (Paden) Cooper, Stephanie Brougher, Lindsay (Justin) Aughinbaugh, Mike (Kris) Monaco and his great-granddaughter Iris Higgins.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children Chris Larson. Two brothers Donald & Robert Brougher, his sister Sue Plummer and his grandson Thomas Scott Brougher.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday September 26th, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00pm & 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 226 Fallowfield Ave, Charleroi. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday September 27th, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Monongahela Cemetery.
