James Lynn Roberts, 82, of North Charleroi passed away peacefully at Redstone Highlands with his loving wife and family by his side on October 14th, 2024. Jim was born on December 2nd 1941, to the late Harry Paul and Bernice (Lynn) Roberts. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his beloved Auntie, Florence Lynn.
Jim was the owner and operator of the North Charleroi Dairy Queen for over 50 years. He was very proud to be part of the Charleroi Community and gave back generously. He loved serving his community, their families and his employees, whom he treated as family. Jim was a Dickenson College ‘62 alumnus and member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Following in his family’s long-line of educators, Jim taught chemistry at Charleroi Area High School for over 25 years. He also enjoyed skiing with his students as the Ski Club Adviser.
Jim’s passion for science and learning went beyond the classroom. He loved everything about the natural world: astronomy, birdwatching, composting, and tending his gardens which included an abundance of beautiful flowers. As an avid arborist he grew his own cherries and concord grapes. He earned a reputation for making excellent homemade applesauce and pies. Jim loved camping with his family where he would use the time to teach his children and grandchildren about the stars, the birds and the world around them. It wasn't unusual to hear him ask “what river are we crossing kids?” As retirement neared, Jim and Jan enjoyed exploring America by RV. His copy of the Audubon Society Field Guidebook traveled with them. Above all, Jim adored his family and cherished all his time with them.
Surviving to cherish Jim’s memory, his beloved wife Janice Elaine (Roadman) Roberts, his brother H. Paul (Linda) Roberts, his sister Nancy (Denny) Ridgeway, and his aunt Jean Roberts who is 104 years old. Also, his daughters Elaine (Dwayne) Sweetman, Jennifer Seaton (Roberts), and Christine (Jodi) Roberts-Rothermund, his sons Jason (Jenna) Roberts and Shawn (Casey) Roberts and Jim’s grandchildren Jason (Lindsey), Marissa, Ashley, Devin, and Nick Roberts, and Lizzy Seaton.
