Joseph J. Zippay Jr.

Farmer and nurse, Joseph J. Zippay, Jr, 79, of Fallowfield Township, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 5, 2025. He was born May 12, 1945 to the late Joseph J. Zippay, Sr, and Helen (Hornack) Zippay. He graduated with the Class of 1963 from Charleroi High School.

Joe was a farmer all of his life. He started as a dairy farmer on the family farm. He delivered milk house-to-house in quart glass bottles with the Zippay Dairy emblem through the years. He also raised pigs and sheep. Joe worked for Fox Grocery, Lee-Norse, and the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Mill in Monessen. In 1993, Joe graduated from CCAC with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. He worked for McKeesport Hospital, Albert Gallatin, and the VA Hospital in Aspinwall as a registered nurse. After retirement, he worked at Mon Valley Hospital as a triage nurse in the emergency room. Joe was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charleroi.

Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Ruth Ann (Patterson) Zippay. Also surviving are his daughters, Christine (Todd) Snyder and Joanne (Scott) Keeler, and son, Daniel (Andrea) Zippay. Grandchildren include Nicolas and Krissa Snyder, Kyle and Kinsler Keeler, and Stella, Everett, and Neva Zippay. Joe is also survived by his sisters, Susan (Chris) Haney and Rebecca (Jack) Mood, his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his dearest friends. Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for their extreme compassion and also to the Fallowfield Fire Department for their many times in lift-assisting Joe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to SPHS Area Agency on Aging, 305 Chamber Plaza, Charleroi, in memory of Joe.

Friends and family will be received from 12:00 (Noon) to 3:00p.m. on Thursday, May 8th, 2025 at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. Funeral Service will begin at 3:00p.m. inside the funeral home with interment following service at Maple Creek Cemetery, Charleroi.
