Mary Stephanie Matava

Mary Stephanie Matava. 70, of Charleroi, went to be with the Lord on May 3rd, 2025 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Mary Stephanie was born on June 1st, 1954 to the late Stephen and Irene (Suhan) Hlavacik, whom survives. 

Catholic by faith; Mary Stephanie was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish and a graduate of Charleroi Area High School Class of 1973. Her favorite hobby was gardening; she loved being outside tending to her garden. Mary Stephanie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family who will miss her dearly. 

Surviving to cherish Mary Stephanie’s memory; her sons C. Ryan Matava and Christopher (June) Matava, her mother Irene Hlavacik, her grandchildren; Crystal Matava and Faith Matava, her brother Joseph (Helen) Hlavacik, sister Mara Hlavacik, Marci Leech and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her father, Mary Stephanie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles H. Matava, her brother Stephen Hlavacik, her sister-in-law Annamarie Hlavacik, her brother-in-laws Dave Howard and Eric Leech, and her daughter-in-law Elise Matava. 

Friends and Family will be received from 2:00 to 4:00p.m.and 6:00 to 8:00p.m. on Friday, May 9th, 2025 at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, May 10th, 2025 at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish – Charleroi Site, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi.
