Michael Bonn

Michael R. Bonn, 81, of Dunlevy, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2022, in Ormond Florida. Born in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital in 1940, Mike was the son of the late Stephen & Kathryn Mary Boncarosky.

Baptized Michael Basil at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Charleroi, Mike was the godson of Effie Matsko of California Pa. and Nicholas Trubell of Donora Pa.

Mike started school in California Pa., and later attended elementary school in both Donora and Charleroi, and middle school in Charleroi and high school in McKeesport where he graduated in 1958.

Out of high school, Mike served honorably in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during the Vietnam War. After the war, Mike went to work for U.S. Steel, Fairless Works, as a metallurgical inspector and later transferred to Irvin Works in Dravosburg where he retired. While at Irvin, he held many union positions including Local 2227 President, where he served two consecutive terms.

Mike resided in Dunlevy for many years. He served his community in many ways including Constable, Mayor, Councilman & Secretary/Treasurer. Mike was also a Trustee in the Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs and was President of the Tri-County Boroughs Association for many years. He was responsible for the funding of the current borough building and the Dunlevy Recreation Center.

Surviving to cherish Mike’s memory; his son Michael Bonn Jr. of Orlando, Fl., and his stepchildren Joanne, Kim, Curtis, Keith, and Steve.

In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his son Nicholas and his stepson Micky.
