Nancy Baker Obituary

Nancy Louise Baker, 83, of Charleroi, passed away on Feb. 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born on Dec. 11, 1941, in Jackson, Minn., to Martin and Coletta Macek.

She married Donald “Monk” Baker on Aug. 3, 1963, after they met while both working for United Airlines in Washington, D.C. Nancy and Don were married for 50 wonderful years and had one daughter, Natalie (Baker) Dedo.

Life was always an adventure for Nancy as she and Don moved to several different cities due to Don’s career. She was an incredible wife, mother, project manager for the five homes they built (monitoring the builders daily), interior decorator, and homemaker.

Once Natalie was grown, Nancy ventured out to work outside the home, taking a position with Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services Inc., as an assistant for the Alzheimer’s Elder Care Program. Nancy’s caring nature made her an ideal candidate for this role. We loved hearing stories about her interactions with clients, particularly her challenging relationship with Charlotte, who was initially resistant to Nancy. However, Nancy remained patient and provided exceptional care to Charlotte and all her other clients. After they both retired, Nancy and Don enjoyed many winters at their condo in Sunset Beach, N.C. They cherished visits from family and friends and made many new friends in North Carolina. Nancy especially loved spending time with her three grandchildren and could always be found cheering them on at their sporting events. Nancy also enjoyed her time with her card club friends and deeply valued her neighbors, who looked out for her and became some of her closest friends. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Charleroi.

Surviving to cherish Nancy’s memory are her daughter, Natalie (Jeff) Dedo; and her grandchildren, Jordan, Mekayla, and Meghan Dedo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Baker; her parents, Martin and Coletta Macek; and her loving in-laws, Joseph and Lola Baker.
