Patricia Ann (Johns) Sawka, 69, from North Charleroi, passed away in her home after a brief struggle with cancer with her small but loving family surrounding her.
Born on May 19, 1951 in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, Patti graduated from Charleroi Area High School. She then ventured to Ft. Lauderdale for seventeen years, working as an inhalation therapist for Broward County Hospital. Upon returning to the Pittsburgh area, she received her Associate Degree from CCAC and worked for Mercy and later UPMC.
Always the life of the party, Patti knew how to light up a room when she walked in. Her friendly, warm personality always made people smile. She loved being with her family and friends, whether at the beach, the family cabin, or trips to Florida. She also loved to dance, poke around in her garden, and watch her favorite movies over and over again, especially with family.
While she was a devoted mother to her only son Dimitri, they were also best friends. From the moment he was born, Dimitri was her everything. In her last days Dimitri gave his mom loving, tender care and never left her side. He will miss her more than words can say.
In later years, she reconnected with a former classmate Tom Might. They spent time going to concerts, hiking outdoors, or just being together. Patti’s family is grateful for the loving care and kindness Tom gave her these past few months.
She is survived by her son Dimitri Sawka (Heidelberg), Sister Arlene (Louis) Gaudioso, and nieces Gretchen and Gwen Gaudioso from Lancaster.
Patricia was preceded in death by Robert and Catherine (Magalich) Johns.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for July 18, 2020 at Round Hill Park and Exhibit at the Visitor’s Center from 2pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in her name to the American Liver Foundation. Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schrock-hogan.com
