Ruth Esther (Balas) Levy, 88, passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2021 at The Residence at Hilltop Assisted Living Facility. Born on October 17th, 1932 in Monessen; Ruth is the daughter of Michael & Catherine (Hornack) Balas.
Ruth was telephone operator in Charleroi after graduating from Charleroi High School Class of 1950. She also worked as a clerk at Crossroads (later became Get-Go) for almost 20 years.
A Charter member of Grace United Methodist Church in Coal Center; Ruth also participated in the choir, youth sponsor, Bible School, church secretary and organist. She was a member of Sweet Adeline’s and was a 50 year member of Fallowfield Grange 1382. Ruth also volunteered at Center in the Woods in California for over 11 years.
On June 12th, 1954 she married Samuel L. Levy who preceded her in death on October 27th, 2020. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. She loved her flower gardens, enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, scrabble and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Survivors include her brother Michael & Doris Balas and sister C. Louise & Rev Charles (deceased) Fair; sisters-in-law, Johanne Levy and Sally Sedunov. Son-in-law Peter (Danny) Horvath, daughters-in-law Judith Levy and Michalle (Dale) Richardson. Her four grandchildren, Lisa & Brian Lohr, Timothy (TJ) & Nicole Levy, Chris & Lhen Levy, and Jess & Samantha Levy. Five great-grandchildren; Ross & Maxx Lohr, Timothy & Braden Levy and Isabella Levy.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Samuel Levy; her children, Lorraine Horvath, Timothy & Jeffrey A. Levy.
At the request of the family all services will be held privately. Interment has occurred at Maple Creek Cemetery in Fallowfield Twp.
