David Joseph Kurowsky, 64 of Charleroi, passed away Friday July 22, 2016 in the Jefferson Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.  David was born July 1, 1952 in New Eagle, the son of the late Carl Kurowsky and Bertha Fleming Thomas.  He graduated from Charleroi High School in the class of 1970 and Penn State University in 1974.  David was formerly employed at the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and Page Monessen Plant and was employed at the Washington Penn Plastics in Washington until his retirement in 2013.  David was an avid supporter of all Charleroi Sports and always referred to himself as a Cougar for life.  He was the clock keeper for the Charleroi football games.  He was a member of the Washington Chapter of the W.P.I.A.L. Officials for basketball and the National Pike Association for umpires.  He also was a huge fan of Pitt football and basketball.  The thrill of attending a pirate game and a Pitt football game with his high school buddies was the highlight of his year each year.  David is survived by his wife Joy Griffith Kurowsky of Bentleyville, who he married November 12, 1977; his sons Matthew Kurowsky and wife Brittany of North Charleroi and Bradley Kurowsky and wife Reanna of Madison, AL; four grandchildren Aubrey, Elijah, Landon and Jase Kurowsky; his sister Carleen Jones of Ellsworth;  David is also survived by his Uncle Fred Fleming of Ft. Lauderdale and his best friend Mark Joswick of Montclaire, VA.  In addition to his parents David is preceded in death by his step-father Bill Thomas, former Police Chief of Charleroi, maternal grandparents Dave and Velma Fleming of Charleroi and paternal grandmother Jennie Hough of Monessen.  By requested of David a public viewing will not occur.  A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home, 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi on Tuesday  July 26th at 10a.m. for family and friends visitation and a memorial service at 11a.m.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Charleroi Area School District Educational Foundation.  Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schrock-hogan .com.
